Hello, I'm Mary, and I'm complicated.

Today, I did nothing, and it was nice, but I think I secretly wanted to do something, because I feel unfulfilled. I didn't do much research for my other livejournal, except for asking for permission to quote someone, and I got my permission. Yay.

Dull... boredom... snore. I think I should post up my most recent poem for my writing class...yeah, that's a good idea. The assignment was to use a real tabloid article title that my teacher had found and recorded over the years.

"ABRAHAM LINCOLN WAS A WOMAN"
by Mary Bedell

Bigotry in the country
Forced into hiding
A pale creature, a noble one,
Of white breasts and red lips,
And that woman burst
From the womb of Illinois law
To lead her country to the promise land,
And so Abigail Lincoln renamed herself Abraham,
After all, she knew the bible well.

To become the man
That she would need to be
To lead her people
She wore her hair short,
And her facial-wig long,
But death comes fast to the messiah
In the form of a bullet
From a jealous past lover,
Who knew her secret
And Abigail fell, red lips parted
Into her grave, never leaving her disguise.

Now a ghostly wail, a woman’s scream
Echoes over a mis-marked grave.

***

Yeah, it was fun to write. Uh, what else did I do today? I've been talking to Teresa for two hours on AIM. Why not in person? Because she moved 1,600 miles away. :( BUT I am visiting her on the fifteenth, which will be loads of fun. <3 I can't wait.

Yeah. That's pretty much it. So much for a first entry.

~Mary
